A Plan, Not Just Tools

Most data loss traces not to missing technology but to a missing plan. Jobs run, backups complete, and recovery still fails because no one defined what to protect, how fast, and to what point.

Inventory by Impact

Start with a data inventory ranked by business impact. A customer database and a scratch share have very different recovery needs, and classifying them shows where to spend recovery budget.

Set RPO and RTO

For each tier, define how much data can be lost and how long systems can be down. A data backup plan without these two numbers is guesswork.

Design In Resilience

A 2026 plan assumes attackers target backups, so immutability, isolation, and verified restores belong in it from the start rather than as a later bolt-on.

Keep It Living

Systems, data, and threats change. Revisiting and re-testing the plan on a schedule keeps it aligned with the current environment.
